The TV comedy “Ugly Betty” and the film “Pan’s Labyrinth” won top honors Saturday at the 22nd annual Imagen Awards.

“Babel,” the critically praised movie that weaves stories set in Mexico and four other countries, lost in four categories.

The Imagen Awards honor contributions by and about Hispanics in the entertainment industry.

ABC’s “Ugly Betty,” which has received 11 Emmy nominations, was named best prime-time television program. Its star, America Ferrera, who is in the running for an Emmy, was named best TV actress and also received the Imagen Foundation’s Creative Achievement Award.

The show’s Ana Ortiz won for best supporting actress.

“Pan’s Labyrinth,” the surrealistic movie about a young girl who turns to fairy tales to escape the brutality of fascist Spain, was named best picture.

Mexican director Guillermo del Toro got the directing award and Ivana Baquero, the movie’s 13-year-old star, was best actress.

Mel Gibson’s brutal Mayan epic, “Apocalypto,” lost for best picture but Gerardo Teracena and Dalia Hernandez were chosen best supporting actor and actress.

More than 2,000 people attended ceremonies at the Walt Disney Concert Hall.

Actress Kate Winslet fears she has jeopardized her chances of being picked to be a Bond girl – because she refuses to dress so raunchily. The English beauty has previously stripped off for movies Titanic and Little Children, but she refuses to disrobe so easily for a less demanding role. She says, “Young women in those films always have to take their clothes off and kind of run around with daggers in their bikini bottoms.” Like, hey Kate doing a Bond movie role is one of the coolest things to do, why just look at the sex scenes in the movie and not at the fame and promos to receive once you sign with the movie. Disney has taken the step forward to become the first movie studio to ban all smoking in films. Disney studio heads have said that from now on no one will be seen smoking a cigarette, cigar, joint or pipe in any and all of their films. They are also trying to encourage others at Miramax and Touchstone to follow suit. Hollywood has been blamed for teenager smoking after a study was done that showed that children with high exposure to smoking in movies have a higher chance of becoming smokers. I suppose it’s better late than never as far as these types of things are concerned. Smoking has been a number one killer for decades now. It’s when Hollywood is full of cocaine and drunk driving that they take a stand against smoking. It looks like they have more things to take a stand against. If anyone was going to make a change it might as well be Disney. After all, I can’t recall their classic cartoons without any smoking. They were one of the worst for cartoon characters puffing away. Hopefully other studios will make the change as well.

Actress Scarlett Johansson has splashed out $8 million on a mansion in the Hollywood Hills. The Lost In Translation beauty, 22, bought the spacious property from movie maker Harold Becker, and the house boasts seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms. So, like how is she going to stay in such a huge and colossus property alone? Seven bedrooms and seven bathrooms, she would have to live in one room and use one bathroom for every day of the week to make sure she makes use of all of them. I’d rather like to live in a nice pretty little apartment, where there is no intrusion of privacy but at the same time it’s a little chirpy and lively in the surroundings. Billy Crudup is set to take on the role of the nuclear accident-enhanced Dr. Manhattan in the big-screen adaptation of Alan Moore and Dave Gibbons’ iconic 12-part DC Comics series Watchmen, the only graphic novel to ever win the Hugo Award, a top honor in the world of science fiction and fantasy, and the only work of its kind to appear on Time magazine’s list of the 100 best novels since 1923. I’m a bit worried about this. With the exception of “300″,nothing of Alan Moore’s has been given a proper treatment via its transition from print to screen. I wish both Moore and the studios would humble themselves and get together so that “Watchmen” doesn’t turn into another “League Of Extraordinary Gentlemen”. It would hella suck if the most revered and respected graphic novel of all-time were to get a crap treatment from yet another producer that didn’t get the source material. To be honest, I think comic book films should only be handled by filmmakers who are/were comic book fan boys. Period. The X-men

US actress Julia Roberts has been named the winner of the 2007 American Cinematheque award, which honours career achievements, reports say.

The Academy Award winning-star was chosen unanimously by the non-profit organisation’s selection committee, Variety magazine reported.

She will collect the prize at a ceremony in Beverly Hills in October.

The 40-year-old, who won an Oscar for Erin Brockovich, presented last year’s winner, George Clooney, with his award.

Actors, directors and writers have been honoured at the ceremony every year since its inception in 1986.

American Cinematheque uses the event to raise money to help support aspiring film-makers.

Previous honorees include Steven Spielberg, Martin Scorsese, Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman.

Roberts has been one of the most popular actresses in Hollywood since her 1988 breakthrough in Mystic Pizza.

Her other screen credits include Steel Magnolias and Pretty Woman.

She will be seen in Afghanistan war drama Charlie Wilson’s War alongside Tom Hanks later this year.

The Borders bookstore is the second largest national chain in the U.S. They just announced this morning that the first day of sales for the latest Harry Potter book has broken book sale records on a global scale. 1.2 million copies of the book were sold worldwide in just the first day on store shelves. It was the highest in sales for one day in Borders history. The last book in the series sold 850,000 copies in its first day of sales. Fans remain in line ups all over the world to get their hands on a copy of the book. It doesn’t look like it will be dying down any time soon, not until every last fan has been satisfied. They better get their fill while they can, it won’t last long. This is the final book in the Harry Potter series. It has already evoked large expressions of emotion from both readers and the author. Bookstores probably won’t see a shortage of customers any time soon.

The movie Hairspray is set to debut in theatres today. After the last few years in Hollywood have been spent idolizing the skinny girls, it’s now time to pay homage to the larger, healthier women. The big screen musical includes lyrics that celebrate bigger women rather than putting them down. It’s a really nice change. Film makers are hoping that the movie will open the minds of both movie goers and Hollywood to the fact that people of larger proportions deserve their close up as surely as any skinny girl does. Talent cannot be defined by physical weight. It’s unfair to shut out wonderfully talented people because of something as meaningless as weight. Classic beauties Marilyn Monroe and Mae West were curvier and more ample than the average stars of today. It would be nice to recapture that healthy beauty.

Singer Gwen Stefani is suing a US retail apparel chain alleging that’s its designers have copied her heart trademark from her Harajuku and L.A.M.B. clothing lines and used them in their outfits. She said Forever 21 bosses were engaged in “acts of trademark infringement”. Stefani is seeking to stop the company from showcasing clothes based on her own designs. Trade mark infringement is a law offense in any country and the bosses could well have to cough up huge sums if they are found guilty. I didn’t that Gwen was a apparel designer as well as being a successful singer. Some people are so creative but do not find success in a whole life time, but she is fortunate that she has found success in her endeavors and accomplished such heights. Some fight for hearts and lost hearts, Gwen will be fighting for the rights of a ‘heart trademark’.

It seems some young girls in Hollywood have grown up in the past few days and what’s the exciting thing that has made them realize the same fact is that the feel they want to bare their clothes. Emma Watson is inspired by Harry Potter co-star Daniel Radcliffe who recently stripped of on stage where as Anne Hathaway is being more sedate by saying that she is willing to shed hery be towards this stripping thing, at least the two have selected a movie or stage performance to fulfill their inner desires but many of our beloved actresses find stripping at pubs and striptease clubs more of a high adrenalin push to satisfaction.

Finding your man with another female is something that most girls couldn’t stand. But that’s one more thing on the list that doesn’t let Fergie be classified as ‘most girls’. Another case in point, she was the one that asked boyfriend Josh Duhamel out after being pushed by her friends due to his revelation of having steamy dreams about her in a magazine.

Here’s another unconventional thing about their relationship. Fergie says that she loves to see Josh get freaky with his co-stars in his show ‘Las Vegas’. She says it makes her feel better when she’s away because it makes her remember their own kisses together and reminds her of what’s waiting when she gets home.

One week ago marked the launch of Jessica Simpson’s new line of swimwear. The singer, actress, and now, entrepreneur sat front row at the ‘Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week: Miami Swim’ at the Raleigh Hotel on Saturday.

Her mother Tina and her dad Joe were there in support of Jessica as well as one of her best friends, who also happens to be her hair stylist, Ken Paves. After the show, Jessica hosted a party in the Redroom at the Shore Club’s Skybar to celebrate the new line.

I admire her for working so hard but I just have to ask this: why does she need to find more things to suck at?

There was a minor pyrotechnics accident at a recent Beyonce show. A display flew into the front row, injuring two fans. Even though the two were not seriously hurt Beyonce went to the hospital right after the show to check in on the fans herself. There is no response from the two fans but Beyonce’s publicist did confirm the rumor that she did indeed go to see them. This is pretty unheard of as far as divas go. Perhaps there is more humanity left to Miss Knowles than I had previously thought. As years go by celebrities seem to have less appreciation for the very people that put them in the spotlight. Beyonce has gotten herself a few brownie points in my books for taking some time out of her schedule to devote some consideration to others.

What can you say about Mandy Moore that would tarnish her reputation? Nothing really. She doesn’t flash her stuff nor does she parade around with knives during her drunkenness. But she does good, a lot of good.

Mandy took some of her precious time on Monday to visit some sick kids at Children’s Hospital in Boston. She spent her morning stopping by rooms and getting to know patients individually instead of having a pow wow.

The visit was a surprise for the kids organized by a Boston radio station. The kids all lit up when she came by their rooms.

Let’s all hope that the rest of young Hollywood would follow the likes of Mandy instead.

For some reason its huge news that David and Victoria Beckham have arrived in Los Angeles. For months now everyone has known they had planned the big move. It wasn’t long after she arrived that Victoria Beckham, aka Posh Spice phoned Ryan Seacrest’s radio show to talk all about it. She mentioned how they received such a wonderful reception from Americans and then went on to say that they plan to keep their children out of the spotlight as much as possible. My question is where did they think they were moving to? L.A. isn’t exactly known for its celebrity privacy. When Ryan asked her about her non-existent smile she admitted to wanting to smile more now that Americans do so much. That’s odd. Why should she care now what people think of her? She did mention that she is a very boring person and that there are more interesting celebrities than her family. Agreed. I’m already bored writing about them.

In the newest issue of Seventeen magazine Hilary Diff speaks out about her break up with Joel Madden. Joel began dating Nicole Richie within weeks of the split and she is now expecting his child. She answers some candid questions in the article including how she felt about his sudden dating after their break up. She comments that she feels that she never knew him that well after all. He wasn’t into rebound relationships but after two years with Duff did just that. In the same article she is asked about the divorce of her parents which came recently, at the age of 19 for Duff. She admits it’s hard realizing your parents are just people too. This girl has gone through some great changes in the last few years. When her peers are taking drugs and driving drunk she has succeeded in maturing and actually learning something. Little girls are running out of positive, clean cut role models in Hollywood. I’m crossing my fingers that Duff never changes.

The new Harry Potter Movie has just released this Friday all over the world and seems like it will break big box office records, and a star of the movie has made some revealing plans to celebrate the success. Emma Watson has plans to shed her good-girl image and wants to bare it all on stage just like her co-star Daniel Radcliffe. The 17year old actor said she has giggled throughout the Radcliffe’s naked scenes in London stage show Equus, but certainly admires his confidence and courage. Emma you need not worry cos when you strip it at that time Daniel too would be there to give you support and admire your confidence. She should think of doing it for a cause though like for animals rights or some other issue that would at least draw the attention of the world on her for something that means to change the world for the better. And that would also mean not spending a few thousand Benjamins on a designer outfit.
