Amy Winehouse won’t be performing at the MTV Video Music Awards, or anywhere else in the United States anytime soon.

The British retro-soul singer was to perform at the Sept. 9 event in Las Vegas, but her U.S. record label, Universal Republic Records, said Wednesday that all U.S. appearances have been canceled “in a continued effort to support Amy Winehouse’s well-being.”

It is the latest setback for the gifted but troubled 23-year-old. Last week, she was photographed with her husband, Blake Fielder-Civil, bloodied and bruised after an apparent fight in a London hotel.

The gossip Web site perezhilton.com has said it received text messages from Winehouse denying Fielder-Civil was responsible for her injuries, saying she cut herself after he found her about to do drugs.

She canceled a series of British concerts and postponed a tour of the U.S. and Canada after British media reported that she was in and out of rehab recently.

Winehouse made her U.S. debut this year with the acclaimed album “Back to Black,” but her tabloid troubles have often overshadowed her talent. She’s spoken openly about her past battles with drugs and her penchant for alcohol and marijuana. Her hit single “Rehab” is an autobiographical tale of her resistance to being pushed to go to rehab.

Actress Amanda Bynes has distanced herself from party-loving stars such as Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears, arguing the only thing they have in common is their age group. The Hairspray star, 21, isn’t interested in hitting Hollywood nightclubs, and plans to stay as grounded as possible as her career continues to take off. Firstly she can at this stage never qualify to be a Britney Spears coz Britney has already achieved a lot more than she has today, I can’t say the same for Lindsay though. Amanda it’s good if you have been able to keep yourself firmly planted on the ground but you seem quite susceptible when you use the word ‘possible’. If you let yourself lose once and get into acts that make Britney and Lindsay the world’s most hated creepers then you are done babes. Then you can form a trio with the two and hog the lime light as the two have for the past year or more. Due to poor ticket sales and a major flop of an album, Kelly Clarkson was forced to pull the plug on her big arena tour earlier this summer. Despite all that, the first American Idol is soldiering on.

It has just been announced that she will be hitting the road this fall. You have to give her props for that especially after all the drama that has gone down. However, it’s not going to be an arena tour. Kelly will be playing small 2500 seat venues. And yes, that includes casinos.

Nicole Richie was “pleasantly surprised” to be released after serving 82 minutes of her four-day jail sentence for a second DUI conviction, her lawyer said Friday.

“Nicole was aware that most people with sentences similar to hers are booked and released in a matter of hours and she was hoping to be treated like everyone else,” attorney Shawn Chapman Holley said in a statement. “Nevertheless, she was prepared to serve her entire four-day sentence had the Sheriff’s Department required her to do so.”

On Thursday, accompanied by her boyfriend Joel Madden as well as Holley, the five-months pregnant Richie entered the jail in Lynwood, Calif., at 3:15 p.m. She was processed into the system and released at 4:37 p.m.

“Of course, she was pleasantly surprised to be released so quickly,” said Holley.

Kerri Webb, a spokeswoman for the sheriff’s department told that Richie “was released early due to overcrowding in the jail system. This is standard procedure for nonviolent offenders.”

Richie, 25, who’s pregnant by Madden, pleaded guilty to DUI on July 27. As part of her sentence, she also agreed to serve a three-year probation term, must enroll in an alcohol education program and was fined $2,048.

She was arrested for DUI on Dec. 11 after being spotted driving her black Mercedes SUV the wrong way on an L.A. freeway.

She was previously convicted of DUI in June 2003.

Given the multiplatinum, Grammy-winning successes of fellow “American Idol” winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks is feeling pressure to make her own mark on the music world.

It’s a lot to live up to.”They’ve risen the bar so high and I’m like, `I hope I can reach it,’” the bubbly 17-year-old told The Associated Press on Wednesday. “I’m trying to reach it! I just really hope that when (my CD) comes out it’ll be great and maybe as good as theirs. And hopefully it’ll sell well and people will like it.”

She offers a taste of the disc with her new single, “Tattoo,” to be released on AOL’s PopEater music blog Friday and to radio stations Monday. The poppy tune about ending a romance had the Sparks seal of approval from the beginning. It was love at first listen.

“Right after I heard the first chorus, I was like, `I wanna sing that song. I have to have it. I wanna sing it,’” she said.

Sparks, the youngest winner in the Fox show’s six seasons, said her debut album, set for Nov. 20, will be a musical mixture of styles including pop-rock — in the edgy key of Clarkson, one of her role models — and the dramatic ballads that made her stand out on the “Idol” stage. She hopes to add some country, too.

This girl’s got goals — among them, to “maybe win a couple Grammys … Maybe be happy with somebody. Maybe act in a movie. Maybe do Broadway.”

Sparks is still coming to terms with celebrity. Seeing her picture in glossy magazines is surreal. But she’d rather be in the spotlight than out of it.

“I wouldn’t trade this experience for anything,” she said. “It’s just been so amazing. You know, it’s hard because I go outside and I’m instantly recognized and I’m like, oh my gosh, because it happened overnight, literally.”

Sparks, who is out on the “American Idol” tour, remains tight with her fellow finalists. That includes Sanjaya.

“It’s abnormally weird how well we still get along,” she said. “We’re still like any dysfunctional family where we get on each other’s nerves, but, at the end of the day, we’re still just like, ‘Hey, you wanna hang out?’”

Kelly Clarkson was on Canada’s MTV Live to promote her latest flop of an album ‘My December’ on Monday afternoon. She also showed off her back-to-blonde short locks.

Since she’s back in good terms with Clive Davis, she decided to rag on American Idol a bit and favored Canada’s version of the show. She said “Yours is so cool. Your ‘Idol’ is so much better! They don’t let you near instruments on American Idol.”

Anyway, Kelly performed a couple of live tracks on the Tuesday episode of Canadian Idol which was probably why she was praising it. Cheap plug.

It’s becoming quite clear what elementary schoolers did on their summer vacations: They watched High School Musical 2. According to the Disney Channel, four out of every five girls aged 6-11 who watched TV on Friday night watched the record-setting premiere of HSM2. I think this sends a clear message to he networks; we’re ready for clean, fun television again. I, for one, am burned out on reality shows, physic-type babble, and violence. Television used to be able to be watched by the whole family – together at the same time. Now what passes for adult fare I wouldn’t want the kids watching and the networks that target kids are, for the most part, inane? Thank you, Disney Channel, for giving us some cute shows

Hilary Duff is on a roll as she gives another outstanding, and very leggy, performance at The Pearl Concert Theater at the Palms Casino Resort on Saturday in Las Vegas, Nevada. But looking good and singing good is not all she’s about.

In an interview with UK’s Independent, Hilary says “I’m not a politician but there are so many issues in America. Our involvement in the war is the most obvious, and also the way some people are treated. I would also change the weekends to workdays, and have the whole week as a weekend, then I’d be a popular politician, wouldn’t I?”

The only way to keep a crazy boyfriend for now is to go to a doc and ask him to fix it up. Lily Allen’s battle to renew her U.S. visa has forced her to cancel a series of concerts next month. The singer was allowed to enter the country earlier this month, but officials refused to renew her visa, reportedly because of her assault on a photographer earlier this year. Some people would be having a sigh of relief that there is at least one less idiotic singer that will be making the rounds in US. But why would there be a problem for her getting a simple visa, after all she is not from some third world country like Somalia and Pakistan for whom the US authorities would not grant a visa. Well this is just a momentary halt and surely very soon she would be granted her visa and things would continue to be better.

High School Musical 2 star Ashley Tisdale is determined not to be sucked into the Hollywood partygirl lifestyle, and wants to stay sober for as long as possible. She telling all this just to let people know that she actually a party girl and nothing else, if she were really a – no party girl then she would not have to yell so loud about it, it would have been noticed easily that she not on the party circuit. I really feel so sad for her that just to get some attention she has tell something that’s ‘different’ from the other, so that people take notice of and people read her comments. Rock offspring Jack Osbourne fears his sister Kelly will get married on the spur of the moment, just like her pal Amy Winehouse. The former reality TV star believes his sister would been keen to rush up the aisle after attending the secret wedding of Winehouse and Blake Fielder-Civil during a trip to Miami, Florida, in May. There you have it again, if the girl is not willing to tell us who she is going to get married to her brother is willing to leak the story to us, he has given us enough reason to believe that there is something cooking and the wedding bells for Kelly aren’t far away. Now I wonder who he had a bet with and how much he is receiving from the paparazzi or gossip magazines to sell the story for. And just don’t stop thinking hear, Kelly would have asked her brother to sell the story for her and they could share the money at a mutually agreed price, it’s a business after all that since the media will make money from the story why should they be left out. Mandy recently took a stab at covering Rihanna’s R&B hit ‘Umbrella’. The singer first explained why she chose to cover the song and said that “This was one of my favorite songs of the moment. I’m not a big Top 40s type of listener but you just can’t deny how melodic this song is.”

Mandy and an acoustic band then took the stage to perform the song. She did it quite well. It even gave the song a more haunting tone

Nothing reported about Jessica Simpson is all that normal. Her latest thing is her plan to adopt a child from a Mexican orphanage that she has been visiting since she was a teen. She told Self magazine that she has wanted to adopt from the Casa Hogar Elim orphanage for eleven years now, since she first held a baby that had been abandoned in a dumpster. She says that she is definitely adopting before having her own children. I’m finding this odd. Is she feeling that pressured to jump on this latest adoption trend? The one good thing she has going for her decision is that she has visited this place over time and not made a random decision to snatch up a needy African kid like Madonna. I have a hard time believing though that Simpson is ready for children. She doesn’t seem all that grown up herself. At the age of 27 her father still does most of the talking and decision making for her.

Spice Girl Melanie Brown recently got married to film producer Stephen Belafonte. Her mother Andrea Brown thinks the secret marriage was a big mistake and that her daughter is suffering from post partum depression. Information recently came out that Belafonte had been charged with hitting his ex and the mother of his child. He managed to avoid jail with a suspended sentence and probation. Andrea says that her daughter won’t take her calls because she knows what her mother is going to say. She finds it surprising that Melanie was so easily swayed into marriage just months after giving birth to daughter Angel. Melanie is scheduled to do a reunion tour this fall with the Spice Girls. She is also up to her ears in drama and hassle with ex Eddie Murphy whose best role to date is that of the dead beat dad.

Spice Girl Emma Bunton, also known as Baby Spice has just given birth to her first child. Her and her boyfriend Jade Jones welcomed in the little bundle of joy at London’s Portland Hospital on Friday. He is the first child for both of them. They named him Beau. Jones offered a statement to the press announcing that both mother and child were doing just fine and should be on their way home soon. Emma is supposed to be rejoining the rest of the Spice Girls later this year for a series of reunion shows. I still find it surprising that she would agree to that so quickly after welcoming her first child into the world. Taking off around the world should be the last thing that she feels like doing, and probably is now. The first year of a child’s life they should be with their mother and that doesn’t mean on a plane every two days travelling the globe. But I guess when you’re offered the right amount of money it can be quite persuasive.

Actress Mandy Moore was humiliated when movie bosses told her she was too fat for her character. The 23-year-old was thrilled to be cast alongside Robin Williams in new comedy License To Wed, but her jubilation soon turned to despair when she was ordered to slim down first. She should have caught them by the scruff of their neck and told those fat bosses of her’s that hey man have a nice look at yourself first and then ever try and come to me with this same issue. At the shooting breaks these directors and producers all sit and eat on Ham burgers and American hot dogs with plenty of cheese and sauces pilled over it but want their actresses to look skimpy and sexy on the screen just to sell the movie as a sex act. Rubbish and utter non-sense from that person who made such a demand. She went on and accepted their terms but she should have filed a report and should have got them in jail and made them feed on watermelon juices for a week. Look at her pictures, I think she looks absolutely fine to me.
