It seems that amidst the financial turmoil that has ravaged economies worldwide and left hundreds of thousands of people jobless celebrities in Hollywood are doing their every bit to not let the ripples affect the nation’s youth. A few weeks ago Oprah Winfrey donated a million pounds to the education system of New Jersey and most recently pop superstar Shakira announced the building a school at the cost of $6 million in her native land.
This time it is hip-hop group Black Eyed Peas who have taken the initiative to launch a youth academy with the sole purpose of giving the less privileged children in California a chance to get involved and create a something out of music and film programs.
Speaking about the new initiative Black Eyed Peas frontman will.i.am says, “As a group, we’ve made a commitment to help give teens the artistic tools and opportunities to help them realize their fullest potential. Thanks to the incredible generosity of Adobe Youth Voices, we are able to expand our vision and give even more kids a chance to be productive, enterprising adults.”
Such efforts are really the new super cool things that celebrities can do as their bit for the community they have lived in and its time that such initiatives are highlighted so that others’ too get inspired to follow in the same tracks.

Christina Milian showed off her curves on the red carpet for the RedZone Entertainment and Radio Killa Records 2009 Pre-Grammy part which was held at STK in Los Angeles this past Friday. I guess she tried to avoid whichever pre-Grammy event Rihanna went to. If you remember, Christina said that the reason she got dropped by her former record label Island Def Jam was because they were giving more attention to the 20-year old Barbadian babe. Christina has since gotten another deal with a different label and her fourth album ‘Dream in Color’ is slated for an April 2009 release.

Taylor Swift hit the red carpet at the 2009 Grammy Awards which was held at the Staples Center this past Sunday night in Los Angeles. The 20-year old country singing cutie was looking very fabulous in her Kaufman Franco dress. Taylor also had a performance on the show, an acoustic performance of her song ‘Fifteen’ which was made into a duet with Miley Cyrus. I bet they did a whole lot of bonding over the fact that they’re both ex-girlfriends of Jonas Brothers. I just hope that Miley Cyrus wasn’t much of an influence on Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift should just stick to being friends with Demi Lovato.
Tune in tomorrow morning, February 12th, to Live With Regis and Kelly to see ten lucky girls vying for a date with Taylor Hicks! The American Idol alum is participating in the show’s “Dating With The Stars” contest which will score one winner a date with the soulful singer. The audience will then vote on which three ladies can compete to win a date with Taylor on Thursday, February 19th.
Taylor Hicks is currently touring with Grease, performing select solo dates and gearing up to release his album, The Distance, on March 10th.

JK Rowling, the author of the super successful Harry Potter series which has become the most successful movie series of all time has been awarded the prestigious Legion of Honour by the President of France Mr. Nicholas Sarkozy
Rowling shot to fame 12 years ago in 1997 when she first released the publication of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone and since then there have been a total 7 series of the Harry Potter mania. She was knighted by the French President at a ceremony held at the Elysee Palace.
Her story is really an amazing one and the tremendous success that Harry Potter has received worldwide is something never witnessed before. I really wish her the best of luck for her future endeavors and may she continue to be as successful as she has been in the past. A deserved award!

It looks like the Jonas Brothers are getting more help from Disney than Miley Cyrus. If you remember, Miley had her ‘Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert’ playing in less than 700 3D screens across the US last year. They made $31 million during its first weekend. Now, Disney plans to put ‘Jonas Brothers: The 3D Concert Experience’ is several hundred more giant 3D screens for its February 27th release, giving it exposure in over 1,100 screens, including 55 Imax venues. As of the moment, it’s being billed as a one week only engagement. But if it’s successful enough, which I think it would be, Disney might add another week or more in some theaters.

Here’s a still shot of Taylor Swift on her appearance in an upcoming episode of ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’ which airs on March 5. This will mark the first primetime acting gig for Taylor. The country singing sweetheart takes on the role of Haley Jones. The character’s family runs a seedy Las Vegas motel where a series of murders is investigated. She recently talked about being on the show saying “I’m just absolutely enamored with ‘CSI’, I just love all the characters! One of my favorite characters is Nick and getting to do all my scenes with him was really cool. Not revealing whether I died or not, but I definitely had to run with scissors, which was interesting to film. Filming ‘CSI’ was so much fun, honestly, I’ll never forget that! It’s my favorite show, and I can’t wait to see it.”

Nickelodeon has recently announced the nominees for its 22nd Annual Kids’ Choice Awards and surprisingly, Katy Perry is in the running for Favorite Song. The singer’s controversial hit ‘I Kissed a Girl’ is up against Rihanna’s ‘Don’t Stop the Music’, Chris Brown’s ‘Kiss Kiss’ and Beyonce’s ‘Single Ladies’. I guess the younger generation is much more open minded than the older folks. I just wonder what their parents think of them liking a song about a girl kissing a girl. I can already feel parents cringing at the thoughts. I hope Katy wins. That would be a riot for sure.

Kevin Federline’s lawyer is still not signing on to the agreement to let the kids go with Britney Spears on her upcoming Circus tour. Mark Vincent Kaplan recently told E! “There can be an agreement reached in probably the next day, but there is not an agreement that is signed yet. Kevin is working to make them accessible by going on various central locations in various areas of the country, and he is doing that because he wants her to be able to have the maximum positive environment around her to assure that the tour will be successful.” The kids will probably not be present at the tour venues nor would Brit see them more often than she already does according to the terms of her custody agreement.

Rihanna was spotted wearing a Minnie Mouse ears hat as she enjoyed some time off at the happiest place on earth last week at Disney World in Orlando, Florida. And look at that cute silver bow purse that she’s carrying! It’s like a theme she has going. Bow on bow. She can be the human incarnate of Minnie Mouse with that whole get up of hers. And she is the cutest Minnie Mouse that there will ever be. I wonder where her boyfriend Chris Brown is in all this. Maybe he was trying to find a similar Mickey Mouse get up.

Emma Watson has denied all reports that Bosses who control the Harry Potter Franchise have sent her a letter that includes ‘Good Behavior’ into her contract. Responding to such claims the actress has laughed of such rumors.
She says, “I’ve never seen a ‘good behavior’ clause – I honestly think that’s a myth – but I actually wouldn’t ever need one. It’s just not necessary. Daniel (Radcliffe), Rupert (Grint) and I have been incredibly protected doing the Harry Potter movies.
Haha! She just following the path that other young artist have taken over the years, initially all of them are well behaved and as they start finding a standing in the world of movies and entertainment they will begin their wayward ways into becoming hooligans.
On the contrary there is no place for good behaved girls in Hollywood, you have to be a bit rash as well as assertive on things that you want for yourself. Emma, no one likes a good girl, go wild, enjoy your youth!

Jessica Simpson and her father/manager Joe Simpson is currently being sued for $10 million for allegedly screwing up their fitness video deal. SpeedFit CEO Alex Astilean is now saying “If the Simpson’s would release the fitness DVD and issue me a public apology, I will drop the lawsuit against them. I never have had the vision of suing someone in my entire life.” The CEO went on to claim that there is a personal vendetta against him that is being led by Papa Joe. He said that entertainment outlets have wanted to interview him about the suit but that the Simpson camp has threatened legal action against any of the shows that dare air footage from the video.

Country singing cutie Taylor Swift has teamed up with Wal-Mart’s LEI brand to design a line of summer dresses. The colorful cotton dresses are supposedly ready to ship next month, just in time for the warming spring months. And get this – all of the styles will retail at the very affordable price of $14 a piece. Group chief executive officer Jack Gross said they chose Taylor because she is “someone with a good reputation and someone who we didn’t have to be afraid of getting any sort of bad press. She is so famous, but really so grounded. We liked her immediately.” Taylor spoke about the line saying “We had so many ideas to work from, and it came down to creating dresses that I would wear. If I couldn’t see myself wearing them, I wasn’t interested in making them. It was very important for me to create cute, affordable dresses. Especially in these hard times, making expensive dresses just doesn’t make any sense.”
Demi Lovato is set to release a Deluxe Edition of her debut album Don’t Forget on March 31st. The limited edition CD+DVD will include hit songs “La La Land” and “Get Back” as well as 2 brand new tracks. The DVD Experience features “Don’t Forget” live performance, “La La Land” and “Get Back” music videos, Demi in the studio, behind the scenes at Jonas Brothers’ Burnin’ Up tour, photo slideshow and more!
Demi just wrapped up a slew of NYC press dates to promote her new Disney Channel Show “Sonny With a Chance.” The new series will premiere on the Disney Channel, February 8th at 8pm/7 central with 2 back to back episodes.

Avril Lavigne was recently spotted looking like she rolled around in the clearance section of a Hot Topic and then finding a wig looking like Amy Winehouse’s signature beehive in a dumpster, decided to dye it blonde and wear it out. The Canadian wannabe rock star was snapped taking a break from a photo shoot at the Viper Room in Hollywood last Monday. Why they hired a 14-year old emo stylist for the shoot is beyond me. It’s nice of them to give young people a chance though. And kudos to them for making Avril look stupider than she already is.

Fans of High School Musical star Vanessa Hudgens are all excited about her rumored inclusion in New Moon, the sequel of the vampire movie Twilight but it seems they have to wait for another sequel, particularly Twilight Part III as Hudgens is unlikely to get a part in movie’s Part II. The excitement was brought about by Hudgens’ auditioning for a role in new Moon a few months back and the audition was even announced by Twilight’s Alice–Ashley Green.
Screenwriter Melissa Rosenberg however said Hudgens will most likely fill the role of Leah Clearwater who is a werewolf in the story. The 20-year old Hudgens is seen as a great addition to the movie considering that Taylor Lautner is reprising his roles as Jacob Black, another werewolf. Leah is portrayed in the novel as her pack’s lone female werewolf who gets jilted by her classmate Sam Uley. Rosenberg however clarified that Leah’s part will be seen only in the third movie if there will be one. Majority of the Twilight cast will be back to reprise their roles in New Moon and they are all in Vancouver right now and shooting the movie. New Moon will however have a new director, Chris Weitz, who also directed The Golden Compass.
