David Archuleta could probably cut the cheese and the American Idol judges would still give him a standing ovation. The youngest of the Idol contestants this year was pretty good on Tuesday but really, it was as if the judges were on auto-pilot to drool over him regardless of what he sang. They didn’t do this for Kelly Clarkson, and no offense, but David eats her dust. Idol has their paws on the recording contracts of the winners so it’s now a question on whether this is about talent or if David is more commercial and has a longer shelf life as compared to the others.
Keep those table napkins ready because it’s going to be hard to give a sympathy clap for former American Idol contestant Chris Sligh with hot sauce on your hands. The Muppet-haired fallen idol wannabe from season 6 is scheduled to make several performances from Thursday through Sunday at three different Wild Wing Cafes in South Carolina. Can that be counted as a tour? That’s a series of gigs in a couple of days. That’s much more than any one-time housing development ground-breaking or outlet mall opening. Can that also be considered as moving up? Does he get paid in free chicken wings?
It was recently reported that Carrie Underwood and Chace Crawford broke up but there’s no need to feel sorry for Carrie. The American Idol alum apparently broke up with the ‘Gossip Girl’ hunk via text message! The 25-year old singer told Extra that “It was completely mutual. We’re both fine…We broke up over text so…It’s like ‘peace out.’ It just didn’t work…And we both knew it didn’t work and no hard feelings at all whatsoever… I haven’t talked to him in awhile but, I mean, I don’t dislike him… So it’s no big deal. It’s difficult while you’re dating because people always make a lot bigger deal of things than they actually are… And then when you break up with somebody and then like two months later it comes out and it’s like you’re rehashing old stuff… I don’t know why that’s all out now.”
He returned to American Idol after a hospitalization scare. David Cook was taken to Cedars-Sinai Medical Center Tuesday night after he performed Dolly Parton’s “Little Sparrow”.
David was suffering from heart palpitations and high blood pressure. On Wednesday’s results show, he showed no problems at all. He tells host Ryan Seacrest, “The whole thing kind of got blown out of proportion. I have high blood pressure, and it spiked, so they took me to the nearest hospital. But I’m cool. I’m not going anywhere.”
And he didn’t this week.
David Archuleta screwed up the lyrics to his chosen Beatles song during American Idol’s performance night on Tuesday and we may have found out the reason why. The Idol fave appears to have a stage dad much like Joe Simpson. According to ET, David was off his game on Tuesday because his dad Jeff apparently pitched a huge fit at a Monday recording session. Sources claim that Jeff yelled at David during the session because he wasn’t happy with his son’s singing – and it brought David to tears. Meanie! Don’t mess with David. You’re the one who’s screwing him up!
It looks like American Idol has a double threat on their hands. One contestant, in the form of David Hernandez, doesn’t just sing. He can dance too – strip dance that is. David’s old boss at Dick’s Cabaret in Arizona sold him out on Monday saying that the Idol wannabe has appeared completely nude and performed lap dances for the club’s mostly male clientele. His boss even said that “He had the look and the type that people like, so he made pretty good money here.” David should be disqualified. Frenchie got disqualified just for having racy pictures. David’s stripper history is much worse!
16-year old American Idol contestant David Archuleta said that the doubted his talent, but feel free to join me in calling his bluff. The kid has been a pro for years. He actually performed on the Jenny Jones show in his even younger years. Jennifer Hudson can eat her heart out because the kid belted out an impressive version of ‘And I Am Telling You’. And that’s not all, there’s even a chance that he may have had a record deal some time in his young life. But for the record, FOX says that contestants cannot currently have a management or recording contract so past contracts don’t really count.
Jordin Sparks worked the red carpet in a strapless brown dress at the 2008 NAACP Image Awards which was held at the Los Angeles Shrine Auditorium on Thursday. That was Valentine’s Day. I wonder if she had a date to the ceremony.
The 18-year old American Idol alum was honored by the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) with the Outstanding New Artist award. Congratulations Jordin! It looks like she’s going places. Let’s just hope she lasts in this industry unlike many others from the reality hit show. So if you like the girl, you better show some love.
